On the latest episode of Bleav in Middle Age Warriors we had the privilege to spend some time with news personality and game show host, Meredith Vieira. I’ve know Meredith from working with her 15 years ago. Since then, we would occasionally cross paths, mainly in our mutual work for various MS organizations and fundraising events.
I’ve worked with many people in my 35+ years of broadcasting. To say I was fortunate and blessed to meet so many talented and good people would be an under statement of huge proportion. Meredith of course fit into that category. However, she is at the top of the list in terms of another category……the most genuine and real person I’ve had the pleasure to work with and know.
This woman is talented and has shown through her career the breath of talent she possesses. From hard news reporting in the field, covering stories as they develop, to long investigative type pieces she delivered on West 57th and 60 Minutes. She hosted The Today Show, where I first personally met her, from 2006-2011. She went on to host her own talk show.
In the last few years Meredith has changed hats and has become a game show host. Taking on the classic “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” from 2002 until 2013. Her latest endeavor has her hosting “25 Words or Less” which can be seen on various networks across the country.
Meredith has also raised awareness and a supportive voice for causes very close to her, including Multiples Sclerosis (which her husband Richard has dealt with since he was 25) as well as her new passion project, Pfizer’s Find Your MBC Voice. The initiative helps encourage those living with metastatic breast cancer to make sure they engage in conversations with their doctor. “I’ve got involved with this when Pfizer approached me,” she says about the project. Meredith was inspired to do this to honor her grandmother who suffered from this disease.
