Hi Chris…. I am a Mets (and Jets) fan bcuz of my Dad. Like you, I remember the Miracle Mets of ‘69 like it was yesterday. I was also 8 years old, in 3rd grade. We had portable classrooms on the playground and our teacher, Mrs. Shimmel, let us stay after school with her to listen to the games on the radio. Those were the good ole days when games were played in the afternoon!

Then there were the afternoon playoff games in ‘86 when I would race home from work and go to my parents house to watch the games with my Dad. When they were playing the WS game 6 in NY, I was in Boston that weekend celebrating my one year wedding anniversary! We were at a restaurant surrounded by Red Sox fans and I had to sit in silence for fear of being thrown out. We were back at the hotel when the infamous Buckner play happened and I just let loose, screaming in joy!! Game 7 was won on my actual anniversary date, 10/27/1986. I cherish them winning on that date more than anything now.

Pretty much my whole adult life I’ve been surrounded by fans of the Evil Empire. Sadly, I’ve been to more games in the Bronx than I have Mets games. My Dad passed in ‘92. When the Mets played in the Subway World Series in 2000, I went to the cemetery and placed Mets flags along with orange and blue carnations by my Dad. Being a Mets fan is tough, Chris, and it’s something only other Mets fans can understand. We suffer greatly. The joys and heartaches. 💙🧡

Lived in New Jersey all my life and would hop on the bus, to the #7 train right after school. In 1977 went to 77 home games, couldn’t get enough of them. My favorite moment was when Seaver recorded his 200th strikeout for 10 consecutive years, I was in the press box. It was against the Phillies, and Carlton and him went the at it, Seaver won, it was a shutout, they both scattered a few hits. My kind of game.

So we’ll written. Never realized what an amazing writer you are. With you 100% on all of the Mets data mentioned. (I too , may never get over “the collapse” against the Nats). So glad the Mets could bring you even a hint of joy in your dark moments. Am very jealous that you got to meet Keith Hernandez. I adore him! I even have a Keith and Hadji tee shirt. The closest I came to meeting him was when I got seats in 311(?) and the booth was above us. In between innings I looked up , caught his attention and told him “ I – pointed to my heart- and then pointed to him. He mouthed “ thank you “ back. I don’t remember if they won or lost, but I left that game happy.

Not talking about the Piazza home run, but the fact that, 1/2 Walt thru the national anthem, you couldn’t hear Marc Anthony on the sound system because 55,000 Americans were singing loudly & proudly. Still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

I have been watching our National game since 1940 and have been a Met fan since their inception, attending the 1st ever game at the Polo Grounds. with tix from Gil Hodges personally and I truly believe that baseball is the game of life. At seasons end it’s merely bedtime and time to dream. And always we wake to spring and the circle of baseball beginning again.

I’m more of a fair weather fan. Back in 1986, I was dating a guy who was a true Mets fan. He took me to a game where the promotion was a Mets calendar. I still have it–the Worlds Series Champions1986 Mets.

Seeing your reaction to the previous day’s score was always something I looked forward to on Today in New York. I really hope they have better luck next year for you and all their fans.

He was a friend of Gil Hodges and can tell you any stat about any game, he only has a TV to watch his Mets as he says. I am figuring out a way to have him reply to your blog, at 87 he is sharp as a tack but clueless to Twitter and blogs. I hope to get a response, he loves to write and he will so love your blog about them. If he responds I will post as Ann’s dad!

Went to a few early games….and they won the Series on my birthday in ’69….imagine my celebration!
So glad you share so much on your blog and FB……was with you from the beginning, through all your ups and downs….tuned in early every morning to check out your wardrobe …… Wow, you do choose well!
Will continue to follow!
