Being new to the blogosphere I just wanted to introduce myself and give a little background as to what brought me here.
My name is Chris Cimino and I’ve been a TV meteorologist for the last 28 years. The last 24 were spent at the flagship station of the network, WNBC in New York City . Nearly 21 of those years were as the early morning meteorologist for Today In New York, the newscast that preceded the Today Show.
Over the years I had the privilege of filling in for Al Roker on the Today Show as well as a two year run as the regular Saturday morning weather caster for the Weekend Today Show.
As of July this year I found myself unemployed for the first time since I was 19 years old. Suffice to say that was a little more than a couple of years ago.
I’ve been through a lot in the last 8 years of my life. Often more than I thought I could handle. As each challenge arose I thought “how am I going to do this?” Somehow I did, and now I have a new one. Unemployment!
I want this blog to share that journey. I know many more of you out there have taken on much more and conquered. I would love to hear those stories as I share mine with you.
As Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull(apologies for those who never heard of them) said in a great lyric, “Life’s a long song…..life’s a long song……if you wait then your plate I will fill.”
Lived the better part of my life in the Bronx. Business had been good to me, so I purchased a home on 3 acres in Weston CT. What does a kid from the Bronx do when he’s given all this land? He fertilizes the life out of the lawn.
On a hot, dry summer day.
So I’m in the yard looking at the yellow wheat field I created and was cursing up a storm, furious with myself, when my wife came out and said my uncle back in the Bronx was on the phone. This was strange, he never calls.
When I got on the phone he said my father was hit by a car. That it was bad and they weren’t quite sure how bad, that I needed to get there fast. I cried the entire ride down. It was bad, but he did survive.
And I thought to myself: “you were upset over GRASS???”
Perspective.
Stay strong. Keep the bad card you’ve been dealt in perspective. Continue to enjoy the ones you love and the life you’ve earned.
We miss you on TINY. But we’re happy for your next adventure.
Thanks Seve for sharing that story. It’s so true. Im glad it resonated with you. I think we all need to check our perspective periodically and realign ourselves to whats REALLY important. I hope everyone is well with your family and thanks for your loyalty. I hope you can follow along on my next journey as well. All the best!
Chris
